Het Water Komt
Illustrating the story of resilience
I had the opportunity to contribute to Het Water Komt by Rutger Bregman, published by De Correspondent and created with the talented team at Momkai. My role included illustrating the cover and designing infographics to visually narrate this important story. With art direction from Harald Dunnink and Martijn van Dam, we crafted a compelling visual experience to complement Bregman’s thought-provoking text.

A forgotten hero of dutch history
The book centers around Johan van Veen, the unsung engineer and mastermind behind the Delta Plan, who foresaw the need for extensive flood defenses long before disaster struck in 1953. His work shaped the Netherlands’ approach to water management, but his contributions are largely overlooked today. Het Water Komt brings his story back to life, reminding readers of the significance of his achievements.

More relevant than ever
As global warming accelerates and sea levels rise, Het Water Komt serves as a timely wake-up call. The book’s message is clear: just as Johan van Veen once rallied a nation to safeguard its future, we must now prepare for the battles ahead. The story is not just a look at the past but a vital guide for facing the challenges of tomorrow.
