MuZIEum isn’t just about vision—it’s about shifting perspectives and embracing what’s often overlooked. As the lead designer, I took on the challenge of crafting a brand identity that would resonate with those who see clearly and those who struggle to see at all. The goal was to create something that goes beyond just being visually appealing. The result? A design that’s accessible, inclusive, and centered around highlighting possibilities rather than focusing on limitations.
Crafting a hyper-accessible visual identity
From the start, accessibility drove our creative decisions. We selected Atkinson Hyperlegible—a typeface crafted specifically for low-vision readers—to form the core of our visual identity. Our research inspired a color palette guided by real-world tools used by people with visual impairments, ensuring every detail serves a purpose. We went beyond standard guidelines, integrating clear contrasts, intuitive navigation, and adaptable formats, resulting in a system that’s practical, engaging, and deeply inclusive.

An award winning concept
Our concept aimed to bring MuZIEum’s mission to life, making it more than just a museum but an experience that opens your eyes to new perspectives. It’s not just about seeing, but about feeling the challenges and strengths of living with a visual impairment. Through thoughtful use of typography, visual distortion, and interactive elements, we let visitors experience how different types of vision impairments impact perception. This approach, rooted in empathy and understanding, earned us a Red Dot Award in the “Concept” category—a testament to the impact of designing with accessibility at the forefront.
